A Journey to Paradise: A Memorable Trip to Kashmir with Friends
They say traveling is the only thing you buy that makes you richer. For me, that phrase couldn’t have been more accurate during my trip to Kashmir with friends. Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, Kashmir, often referred to as “Paradise on Earth,” lived up to every bit of its name. From its snow-capped mountains to its serene lakes, every moment in Kashmir felt like we had stepped into a dream.

ToggleDay 1: The Adventure Begins – Arrival in Srinagar
Our adventure kicked off the moment we landed in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The cool breeze and stunning views of Dal Lake immediately set the tone for our trip. After settling into a charming houseboat on Dal Lake, we couldn’t resist hopping into one of the iconic Shikaras (traditional Kashmiri boats) for a leisurely ride. Floating along the lake, surrounded by mist-covered mountains, was one of the most serene experiences of our lives.
We spent the rest of the day exploring the Mughal Gardens – Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi. Each garden was an ode to the grand Mughal architecture and offered panoramic views of Dal Lake, making it the perfect place to kick off our Kashmiri adventure.
Day 2: Gulmarg – A Snow-Capped Paradise
The next day, we set off for Gulmarg, one of the most popular hill stations in Kashmir, known for its skiing and breathtaking landscapes. As we ascended the mountains in the Gondola (cable car), we were greeted by endless expanses of snow. For many of us, it was our first time experiencing such snow-covered landscapes, and the excitement was palpable.
We indulged in some light-hearted snowball fights, built snowmen, and even tried our hand at skiing and sledding. Gulmarg’s beauty was truly unmatched – snow-covered peaks, tall pine trees, and a sense of calm that filled the air. After an exhilarating day, we returned to Srinagar, our hearts full of joy and our bodies tired from the fun-filled day.
Day 3: Pahalgam – A Scenic Valley
On the third day, we headed to Pahalgam, a quaint little town famous for its lush green meadows and being a base camp for the Amarnath Yatra. The journey to Pahalgam was just as breathtaking as the destination, with the Lidder River flowing alongside the road, surrounded by towering pine forests and majestic mountains.
Once there, we hiked up to Betaab Valley, named after the famous Bollywood movie “Betaab” that was filmed there. The valley, with its lush greenery, clear blue skies, and snow-capped peaks in the background, felt like a picture-perfect postcard. We spent hours simply soaking in the beauty of nature, taking pictures, and sharing laughs.
A trip to Kashmir wouldn’t be complete without indulging in local delicacies, so we treated ourselves to some mouth-watering Rogan Josh, Yakhni, and the famous Kahwa tea, warming ourselves in the chilly evening.
Day 4: Sonamarg – The Meadow of Gold
For our final full day in Kashmir, we visited Sonamarg, or “The Meadow of Gold.” As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with wide meadows surrounded by towering peaks. Sonamarg is often less crowded than other tourist spots, which made it feel like our very own private escape.
We hiked to Thajiwas Glacier, a popular spot for adventure seekers. Some of us tried horse riding while others trekked through the snow. The unspoiled beauty of Sonamarg, with its pristine environment and the gleaming glacier in the distance, left us in awe.
Day 5: Departure – Farewell to Paradise
As our trip came to an end, we couldn’t help but feel a tinge of sadness. Kashmir had welcomed us with open arms and gifted us memories that would last a lifetime. The pristine beauty of its landscapes, the warmth of its people, and the joy of experiencing it all with friends made this trip one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives.
